HgTe A grayish-black, isometric telluride mineral with a metallic luster; specific gravity is 8.6.

Coloradoite has been identified in polished sections from the Cardigan West shaft, in grains to 1 mm along quartz boundaries and as inclusions in krennerite (?) and calaverite (?).
Native mercury has been reported in small amounts associated with cinnabar and coloradoite at the Moon Anchor mine (Lindgren and Ransome, 1906; Eckel, 1997).
A number of rare telluride minerals have also been available from the Fersman Museum, and include rich, nearly pure, massive black coloradoite specimens (sometimes to over 1 kg) associated with massive hessite, petzite, and occasional calaverite from Kochbulak, Uzbekistan.
