constant-speed drive unit (CSDU)

A unit that drives a generator at a constant RPM, regardless of the engine RPM, thus ensuring a constant supply frequency. It is functionally a hydraulic transmission, similar to those in use in automobiles. It may be controlled electrically or mechanically.
