converged packet network

Combining disparate network formats into IP packets that traverse an IP network. After IP became the global standard for communications, all non-IP local area networks were converted to IP. Cellular systems, cable TV and industrial systems followed. See IP Multimedia Subsystem, IP network and packet switching.
