concerted, violent actions by social groups to reverse REVOLUTION. Often such actions are taken by groups ousted from power and can lead to civil war. A major example in the 20th century was the Russian Civil War from 1917 to 1921 with the counter-revolutionary Whites fighting against the BOLSHEVIK revolution.
