default folder

The folder that a file is automatically saved in. Default folders for documents, photos, videos and music are created by the operating system upon installation. Unless users create their own folders, applications save their files to the default folders, and many people never have any idea where anything is stored in the computer.

On the Other Hand
Power users and technicians create folders all the time for each of their projects, because all related program and document files are in one place and can be copied, compressed and backed up by referencing one folder name. With some applications, the last folder chosen to save a file might become the default folder for the next time. See folder and default.
