defense visual flight rules (DVFR)

Rules applicable to flights within an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) conducted under VFR (visual flight rules). Those aircraft wanting to operate under these rules are required to file a special flight plan called a DVFR flight plan. These flight plans provide ready identification, location, and control of aircraft required for aircraft operating within an ADIZ in the interest of national security.
