Demoware: A form of "crippleware," usually distributed by a commercial entity in order to provide you with the look and feel of the application before you buy it.
Our first "demoware" was operational in 1987, and we released Version 1 of POSTGRES to a few external users in June 1989.
There is even a DemoWare library which allows you to download demo versions of various programs.
