desktop computer

A single-user computer. It typically refers to a Windows PC or Mac, but may also refer to a Linux PC. Also called a "client computer" or "client" or simply a "desktop."

Contrast With Server and Mobile Device
Although the term implies stationary use in contrast with a portable laptop computer, the term is often used to refer to users' computers in general, both desktop and laptop, in contrast to a network server or mobile device. See desktop PC and desktop application.
