During hemodialysis (HD), toxins and other solutes are cleared from the blood by diffusion against a steep concentration gradient through a semipermeable membrane into dialyzate. In addition to its specific properties (Table 1), the clearance of a toxic substance during HD depends also on membrane surface area and type, as well as on blood and dialyzate flow rates.
The protein was precipitated and dissolved in PBS (phosphate buffer solution, pH 6.0) buffer and finally dialyzed in a regenerated cellulose membrane for 36 h and replaced dialyzate every 12 h.
