A Unix copy command with special options suitable for block-oriented devices; it was often used in heavy-handed system maintenance, as in "Let's "dd" the root partition onto a tape, then use the boot PROM to load it back on to a new disk".

dd had a distinctly non-Unixy keyword option syntax reminiscent of IBM System/360 JCL (which had an elaborate DD "Dataset Definition" specification for I/O devices). Though the command filled a need, the interface design was clearly a prank.

Differential display reverse transcription PCR (DDRT-PCR), introduced firstly by Liang and Pardee (Liang and Pardee, 1992), can identify the total number of genes subject to up- or down-regulation in a particular setting and has been widely used to screen for genes that are differentially expressed (Breyne and Zabeau, 2001; Ahmed et al., 2000).
Abbreviations DDRT-PCR: Differential display reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction RACE: Random amplification of cDNA ends CaMV: Cauliflower mosaic virus MYB: Myeloblastosis TFs: Transcription factors BLAST: Basic Local Alignment Search Tool UTRs: Untranslated regions Poly-A: Polyadenylated A ANOVA: Analysis of variance EST's: Expression sequence tags.
Identification of sexually dimorphic gene expression in brain tissue of the fish Leporinus macrocephalus through mRNA differential display and real time PCR analyses.
After SAM analysis, a total of 6767 genes were filtered from SAM RNA-seq, and results were compared to 288 libraries from differential display. Eight silence genes were mined in single-cell differential display shown in Table 2, with 6 of 8 genes being mined using the RNA-seq technique.
For gene expression evaluation, the RNA differential display technique was used to be simple and allow the analyses of a large number of different transcripts from a small amount of RNA [20].
Differential Display for total RNA was performed as described by Song et al.
We applied proteomic differential displays, a tool that has been used for biomarker discovery in a variety of diseases (1, 2, 10, 18-20), to identify potential serum proteomic biomarkers of the beneficial effect of TCC exercise.
A band, designated as EST167, which expressed higher in the liver of Meishan pigs but lower in Large White pigs, was isolated from the mRNA differential display gel (Figure 1(A)).
Using the differential display technique, differentially expressed cDNAs between the resistant and susceptible biotypes of E.
3), the other four genes corresponding to drought-regulated clones were found to have similar expression patterns to those identified from the original differential display gels.
Single stranded cDNAs were generated from total RNA extracted from adult rat Soleus muscle tissue using reverse transcription followed by messenger RNA differential display PCF techniques.
The instrument can be used for a wide range of applications including genotyping, differential display, mutation detection, human identification, Southern blot, microarrays, ELISA, and homogeneous assays.
