digital moneyMoney stored and transferred in digital form. In the late 1990s and early days of the Internet, people were reluctant to use their credit cards online, and several payment systems were devised using a form of digital travelers checks (see digital coins and digital wallet). After all was said and done, along with PayPal, traditional credit cards became the primary form of online money transfer. Web browsers and Web servers support the SSL/TLS security protocols that encrypt connections between user and online merchant (see SSL). In the 2010s, mobile payment systems also emerged as a major form of digital money. See Web payment service and mobile payment service.
