The
displacement pile is the oldest type of deep foundation and due to its proven efficiency is acknowledged and often employed in geotechnical engineering practice.
Other topics include structural characteristics and the key technical design of wind turbine foundations in the Shanghai Donghai-Bridge Offshore Wind Farm, predicting pile setup and its resistance factors for southern Louisiana, the axial capacity of drilled shafts in clay over gravel formations, effects of cyclic frequency and pre-loading on the behavior of plate anchors, numerical simulations of a tube-installed
displacement pile in sand using the stress-controlled method, the strength and deformation of characteristics of lagoonal clay deposits in China's Lixia River area by seismic piezocone tests, and monitoring in situ soil moisture variation of expansive clay using neutron probes.
In addition to the data processed in 2005, another pile type has been introduced, which is full
displacement pile. It is worth noticing that the coefficients of variation are decreased for both [(CR).sub.av] and [(SR).sub.av] for each type of pile; thus, the provided [(CR).sub.av] and [(SR).sub.av] values are more reliable because of the extension of the dataset.
The market has been segmented on the basis of application into SS-RS combinations type screw piles, SS (Square Shaft) type screw piles, RS (Round Shaft) type screw piles, and Helical Grouted
Displacement Piles (HGD Piles).
With these installation processes, the piles in the piled raft and the disconnected piled raft foundations can be regarded as
displacement piles. The test cases were focused on the thickness of the interposed layer and the vertical load to find the factors affecting the horizontal load transfer mechanism of the disconnected piled raft, while R1 and PR2 were used as reference tests.
Chan and Hanna [4] showed that the cyclic response of
displacement piles in sand is affected by the number of cycles, their frequency, the mean shaft load, the shaft cyclic load amplitude, the pile depth, the loading history, and the properties of the surrounding sand.
It covers general principles and practices; types, including driven
displacement piles, driven and cast-in-place
displacement piles, replacement piles, composite piles, minipiles, pre-packed piles, and factors governing choice of type; piling equipment and methods; calculating the resistance of piles to compressive loads; pile groups under compressive loading; the design of piled foundations to resist uplift and lateral loading; the structural design of piles and pile groups; piling for marine structures; miscellaneous piling problems, such as for machinery foundations, underpinning, mining subsidence areas, frozen ground, bridges on land, over-water bridges, and seismic regions; the durability of piled foundations; and ground investigations, piling contracts, and pile testing.
Displacement piles are widely used in pile foundation engineering and ground treatment.
