ductility

ductility,

ability of a metal to plastically deform without breaking or fracturing, with the cohesion between the molecules remaining sufficient to hold them together (see adhesion and cohesionadhesion and cohesion,
attractive forces between material bodies. A distinction is usually made between an adhesive force, which acts to hold two separate bodies together (or to stick one body to another) and a cohesive force, which acts to hold together the like or unlike

). Ductility is important in wire drawing and sheet stamping. The metal must neither break nor be scraped off during these processes. Platinum, steel, copper, and tungsten have high ductility. Ductility is a focus of rheology, the study of how materials deform and flow in response to force.

ductility

[dək′til·əd·ē]
(materials)
The ability of a material to be plastically deformed by elongation, without fracture.

ductility

The property of material that enables it to undergo plastic elongation under stress.

HIP has a limited impact on alloy strength, slightly improves the ductility but greatly improves the fatigue properties compared to typical castings.
A number of causative factors have been mentioned in the literature for catastrophic failure of endodontic instruments, such as clinical misuse and/or overuse, inherent flaws in the files along with non-standardized forms, induced weaknesses due to machining errors, and reduced ductility. However, no one causative factor has conclusively accounted for their seemingly random failures.17 It is therefore vital for the clinician to recognize the probability of instrument failure and the underlying causes for this disadvantageous occurrence.
Ductility and overstrength are fundamental factors in force-based seismic design.
While there is no doubt about the positive effect of the script-like [alpha]-phase on strength and ductility values, there is much debate, however, on the effect of the sludge particles on the tensile properties either they are harmful, as regularly believed [28, 33, 34], or favorable to the tensile properties [7,35,36].
Stiffness and Ductility. To evaluate the degradation of column stiffness, the secant stiffness of Col-1 to Col-4 under both forward and reverse loading conditions was plotted in Figure 9 against the displacement at the column top.
* The increase in ductility for HFRC was found to be 94% and 61% in terms of energy and deflection respectively when compared to the plain concrete.
Again, these load-slip curves are analyzed to obtain their connection yield loads and ductility indexes as can be seen in Table 3, where it is well observed that ductility index of the two-bolt connections is significantly lower than that of the single-bolt connections (specimens with end distance of 5d).
It can been seen from Table 1 that, compared with the PRC beam, the ductility and capacity of the PSRC beam have been significantly increased, the ductility increased by 56.49%, and the ultimate capacity increased by 35.89%; being affected by the built-in H-steel, the improvement of the ductility was more obvious; moreover, the comparison of PRC beam and RC beam shows that adding prestressed steel increases the cracking load and section stiffness of beam, but ductility deteriorated.
Both of the strength and ductility of the rolled samples with pre-ECAP processing were higher than the rolled alone sample.
The factors limiting the ductility of Mg castings can generally be categorized into two types: intrinsic (i.e., the phase composition, grain size, morphology, volume fraction and mechanical properties of the [alpha]-Mg matrix and the eutectic [beta] phase, etc.) and extrinsic (i.e., porosity, segregation, incomplete fill, hot tear, cold shut, etc.).
This wire provides greater ductility and formability than filled or plated wire.
ASTM 706 grade steel made by Agha Steel, one of Pakistan's largest private steel mills, has proved its high strength and ductility in high fatigue resistance to seismic loads due to its higher ultimate tensile strength to yield strength ratio, said Director Agha Steel Hussain Agha.
