However, the size of the flowers and legumes of the host plants and the observations themselves in the case of Trifolium cheileri, indicate that feeding must most commonly be ectophytic. With the lentil, feeding behaviour is intermediate: the final stage caterpillar introduces its head and first segments inside the legume, but the final segments remain outside.
