enculturation

(CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY) the informal and formal acquisition of cultural norms and practices. As such, the term is almost synonymous with SOCIALIZATION. Its use reflects the centrality of the concept of CULTURE within cultural anthropology See also ACCULTURATION.
