i. To enter into air-combat engagement with intruders.
ii. An aircraft making contact with an arrester barrier—engaging the barrier. See aircraft arresting barrier.
iii. Contact made by a hook with an arrester wire—engaging the wire. See aircraft arresting cable.
iv. In air defense, a fire control order used to direct or authorize units and/or weapon systems to fire on a designated target—engage the target.
v. In air-to-ground operations, to fire weapons against ground targets—engage the target.
