A prolonged, debilitating disease of the nervous system of adults; characterized by fatigue, headache, muscle pain, paresis, and emotional and mental disturbances; no etiologic agent has been isolated. Also known as acute infective encephalomyelitis; Akureyri disease; benign myalgic encephalomyelitis; epidemic vegetative neuritis; Iceland disease.
