episteme(Greek) any structure of knowledge, or, in terms used by FOUCAULT, discourse formation, which determines the way in which the world is experienced or 'S een’. As such, there are similarities between the notion of episteme and the concepts of PARADIGM or PROBLEMATIQUE (see also EPISTEMOLOGICAL BREAK).
