equivalent headwind

equivalent headwind

The constant wind that, blowing along the tracks at all points, results in the same average ground speed as that produced by the actual distribution of the wind at the time of the flight. A negative value of equivalent headwind is equivalent to the tailwind. On a route, there may be more than one equivalent headwind, depending on the route length and the speed of the aircraft.
