fibril

, fibrilla
Biology a threadlike structure, such as a root hair or a thread of muscle tissue

Fibril

a filamentous structure found in the cells and tissues of animals and plants. Fibrils include formations of various origin and functional significance. They may be examined with a light microscope (for example, collagen and elastic fibers, myofibrils, and tonofibrils) or an electron microscope (for example, the protofibrils of muscles and cytoplasmic microfibrils).

fibril

[′fī·brəl]
(biology)
A small thread or fiber, as a root hair or one of the structural units of a striated muscle.
(materials)
One of the minute threadlike elements of a natural or synthetic fiber.
