Fox-Trot

a ballroom dance in duple time. The fox-trot originated in 1912 in the USA and became popular in Europe after World War I. Based on the two-step, it is characterized by a small sliding step, syncopated rhythm, and metrically even movements varied by the dancers. In the mid-1920’s the quick fox-trot, or quickstep, appeared, and the ordinary fox-trot came to be called the slow fox-trot. The music to the fox-trot is a typical form of jazz music.
