The temperature at which liquid turns solid is called the
freezing point. Water, for example, freezes at 0[degrees]C (32[degrees]F).
Eric learned that different ingredients produce different
freezing points, and that fresh water freezes at a temperature of 0[degrees]C (32[degrees]F).
New experiments take supercooled liquid silicon to more than 200[degrees]C below silicons
freezing point. They show increasing tetrahedral order as the temperature decreases.
In Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place with the mercury plunging three degrees below
freezing point, the lowest in 15 years.
The fluctuation in temperature to below
freezing point is being recorded in the capital city from the last week of December.
Supercooling is a state where liquids do not solidify even below their normal
freezing point and clouds in high altitude are an accumulation of supercooled droplets of water below their
freezing point.
Suspended water droplets can remain liquid even when they and the air that surrounds them have temperatures far below the normal
freezing point, says Azadeh Tabazadeh, an atmospheric chemist at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif.
Skiers from various Ski associations participated in the championship in temperatures below
freezing point. A large number of spectators and Ski lovers from all over the country came to witness the championship.
The
freezing point depends on impurities in the water which seed the formation of ice crystals.
ISLAMABAD, December 26, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Intense cold wave persists in Quetta valley and other parts of northern Baluchistan as mercury dropped below the
freezing point. The mercury dropped to minus three centigrade in Quetta and minus four in Qalat and Ziarat regions.
The gullies lie exclusively in areas where ground temperatures typically don't exceed -70 [degrees] C, which is well below the
freezing point of water.
