MHI will propose the ZE24B gear grinding machine in combination with a gear hobbing machine and
gear shaper, which are produced locally in China, as a production system configuration that can handle all tasks from rough machining (gear cutting) through finishing.
Recently, it introduced India's first CNC
gear shaper with an electronic guide.
He was a machinist for Fellows
Gear Shaper in Springfield, VT and for Jarvis Tool in New Hampshire until he retired in 1982.
Since developing the world's first dry cutting gear production system using no cutting fluid in 1997, MHI has expanded its dry-cut product offerings, including machine tools such as gear hobbing machines and gear shaping machines as well as cutting tools such as super dry hobs and super dry
gear shaper cutters.
The new company will initially manufacture precision cutting tools, including hobs,
gear shaper cutters, gear shaving cutters and broaches, and later incorporate them with Mitsubishi Heavy's advanced technologies to boost their competitiveness, the company said.
In a related move, Star-SU Inc., Hoffman Estates, IL, acquires through Bourn & Koch all assets relating to the manufacture of Fellows
gear shaper cutting tools, including inventory and work in process.
Also recently added to the company's equipment arsenal is the Schiess RS-20 heavy-duty
gear shaper designed to cut large internal gears.
Fellows conceived a better method to make gears and founded the Fellows
Gear Shaper Co.
In addition to outperforming grinders, the new
gear shaper can cut teeth faster than hobbing machines on gears that have a pitch coarser than 2, or more than 2 teeth per inch of the gear's diameter, said Richard Borelly, technical manager of gear manufacturing at Philadelphia Gear.
The Gleason Pfauter GP 300 ES
Gear Shaper can change over from spur to helical gears, or from one helix angle to another, without having to first change the guide to accommodate the new gear.
