In 2003, excellent specimens of creedite, some with gearksutite, celestine, and/or botryoidal rhodochrosite, were released from a 2001 discovery (Moore, 2004).
At the Cresson open pit, celestine collected in 2001 occurred as bluish, white or yellow prisms to 2.5 cm associated with creedite, rhodochrosite and gearksutite. It also has been described as an accessory mineral in monchiquite and gray plagioclase phonolite (Birmingham, 1987).
Creedite was first found at Cripple Creek in the Cresson open pit in 2001, as colorless/white to pale and medium purple aggregates of small (to 1 cm), radiating crystals associated with blue, white and yellow celestine, gearksutite, cubic pyrite and botryoidal rhodochrosite.
Gearksutite was first found in the Cresson open pit in 2001.
Associated minerals are: quartz, orthoclase, albite, aegirine, kupletskite, elpidite, lorenzenite, pyrochlore, monazite-(Ce), gagarinite-(Y), ralstonite, gearksutite and molybdenite.
The secondary calcium fluoride minerals gearksutite and creedite were reported from the mine by Jones (1980) and Besse (1981).
In this respect, the absence of the secondary calcium fluoride minerals gearksutite and creedite in the vugs with the new lead fluorides, and the presence of essential calcium in only one of the new lead fluorides, calcioaravaipaite, is notable.
