graded refractive index rod lens[′grād·əd ri′frak·tiv ′in‚deks ¦räd ‚lenz]
A type of gradient index lens used in optical fiber components, consisting of a rod with a refractive index that has its maximum value on the axis, and decreases approximately as the square of the distance. Abbreviated GRIN-rod lens.
