Major compounds identified in Nagina sample were Dodecane (2.22%), 2-Bromo dodecane (3.45%), Hexadecane (5.43%), Octacosane (2.48%), Heneicosane
(6.18%), Heptadecane (4.45%), Tetrapentacontane (11.74%), Pentatriacontane (7.66%), Tetratetracontane (8.89%), Tetracontane (7.97%), Hexatriacontane (11.37%), Tetrapentacontane, 1,54-dibromo (8.407%) and 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid and ditridecyl ester (11.62%) given in(Table-3).
The GC-MS spectra (Figure 4) indicated the presence of 2-Methoxy-4-vinylphenol, 3,4-Dimethoxy-6-methylpyrocatechol, 4-(3-hydroxy-1-propenyl)-2-methoxy-Phenol, methyl ester of Hexadecanoic acid, n-Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester of 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z), Methyl stearidonate, Heneicosane
, 16,17- Epoxyandrostane, Triacontane, Diisooctyl phthalate, Tetracosane, Stigmast-4-en-3-one, Squalene, and [beta]-Sitosterol (Table 1).
A further shift towards heavier hydrocarbons is observed as the major hydrocarbons are ranging from 1-decene (C10) to heneicosane
(C21).The remaining portion is mostly composed of aromatic and straight chain polar hydrocarbons with very small concentrations.
Among them the liquid alkanes (undecane dodecane tridecane tetradecane pentadecane hexadecane heptadecane etc.) are widely used in fuel oils and as anti-corrosive agents in lubricating oils and solid alkanes (octadecane nonadecane eicosane heneicosane
tricosane tetracosane heptacosane octacosane etc.) find their use in paraffin waxes of different kinds.
