Physical examination findings depend on the size of the pneumothorax; decreased breath sounds,
hyperresonance to percussion on the affected side, desaturated, tachycardia, and/or decreased arterial blood pressure.
Physical exam typically reveals decreased breath sounds with
hyperresonance during percussion of the affected side of the lung.
Physical examination revealed blood pressure of 95/49 mmHg and heart rate of 78 beats per minute (bpm) with decreased breath sounds over the right anterior chest along with
hyperresonance to percussion.
Clinical examination revealed a
hyperresonance and decreased air entry on the left side of the chest.
Physical findings may include the following: tachycardia, tachypnea, and diminished breath sounds,
hyperresonance to percussion, and decreased tactile fremitus on the ipsilateral side.
