iPhone 2GThe first model of Apple's smartphone, which debuted in June 2007. The 2G was not part of the original iPhone branding. It was added later by users to differentiate the models after the iPhone 3G debuted in 2008. The 2G referred to EDGE, which was one of the second generation data services available at that time. The 2G EDGE technology was painfully slow, and the iPhone 3G was welcomed with great enthusiasm because it was much faster. See iPhone, iPhone versions and cellular generations.
