* The heat transfer from dry
ice pellets to the plastic granules is an equilibrium process which decays with the decreasing difference in temperature.
(2000) developed a freezing precipitation (freezing rain,
ice pellets, and freezing drizzle) climatology over western and central Europe and found that it is not uncommon, with a frequency on the order of 0.5%--1% of all reports.
* Some winemakers use inert dry
ice pellets to control temperature within the rotary barrels.
It takes approximately 20 min to go through 30 lb of
ice pellets, which is about how long it takes to clean both halves of a mold measuring 2 x 3 ft.
It is a mechanical effect caused by the impact of the dry
ice pellets and an expansion due to the partial sublimation of the pellet (Uhlmann et al.2, 2006).
Hailstorms come about because
ice pellets in the clouds collect moisture, then freeze and tumble to earth.
Soda blasting uses baking soda, C[O.sub.2] or dry ice blasting uses dry
ice pellets, and sponge blasting uses shredded sponges.
The bend radius of the braided 2" stainless steel line supplying C[O.sub.2] along the Z-axis, to the pelletizer that produces the dry
ice pellets is too large to handle effectively within the carrier.
With a production capacity of 90 kg/hr of 3 mm diameter dry
ice pellets, the system is geared toward small- and medium-run permanent mold and diecasting foundries that clean their molds by hand or robot.
Earlier, in the U.S., Xerox employees found they could clean returned Xerox equipment with dry
ice pellets instead of volatile organic solvents.
By mid-afternoon, however, someone in their wisdom at the London Weather Centre decided they did not actually observe snow after all, rather
ice pellets (hands up now who knows the difference).
Blasting with dry
ice pellets removes old coatings, rust and dirt without damaging the substrate below, but unlike other blast media, on impact the pellets are converted into a gas and released into the atmosphere, making the process dust and contaminant free, The technique is particularly suitable for cleaning detailed or delicate components and in markets such as food processing, electronics or pharmaceuticals where contamination or surface damage cannot be tolerated.
