ignition timing

[ig′nish·ən ‚tīm·iŋ]
(electricity)
The time of delivery of the spark from the coil to the spark plug in relation to the time the piston reaches the correct position for the power stroke in an internal combustion engine.

ignition timing

The timing of the ignition spark with respect to the piston position in the cylinder of a reciprocating engine. The ignition of the fuel-air mixture must take place when the piston is still moving upward during the compression stroke for the engine to produce maximum power. This ensures that the piston is pushed with the maximum force, as it starts moving down on its power stroke. See four-stroke cycle.

The mass fraction burnt 50 (MFB50) point is manually controlled to 8 CAD after the fired top dead center (FTDC) via the ignition timing. This value represents the thermodynamic optimum.
"We disassembled, inspected and tested the key components in each engine," he said, but even after adjusting the ignition timing specification, "the results were still unsatisfactory." In response, the company decided to ground affected engines and create a buyback program.
Sorry.Black smoke means poor combustion or the result of over fuelling when the injectors deliver more fuel than is necessary for a particular volume of air at particular valve and ignition timing intervals or the fuel itself is of the wrong grade/quality.
This information given to the powertrain control module is used to maintain & adjust fuel enrichment and ignition timing under different operating conditions.
This signal is used to determine ignition timing position of the engine to determine when spark is required in the combustion chamber of the engine; it does this by recording how fast the crankshaft of your vehicle is spinning.
The unit is equipped with an electronic control unit Remus Powerizer with a more aggressive card ignition timing, improving the responsiveness of the gas pedal device Responder, exhaust with active dampers, experimental cold inlet and intercooler.
Since we tune based on MAP, and turbocharged engines are boosted, there is less need for adjusting ignition timing. Having said that however, the electronic ignition does not suffer from changes in altitude like magnetos do.
Considering OH* area fluctuations there is a shift of peak COV levels closer towards ignition timing as has been observed with OME1 admixture.
Since oil typically has a high cetane number and its autoignition temperature is much lower than that of gasoline, the preignition of mixtures with oil in the late compression stroke occurs before spark ignition timing, inducing superknock.
Other products on display carrying Hitachi Automotive Systems Espelkamp's HUCO brand will include camshafts that control engine ignition timing and camshaft sensors.

The GT3 racing programme is to thank for the high-flow turbochargers, while revised ignition timing and a higher-capacity fuel pump plump up that peak power output.
