The parachute allowed little, if any, penetration and, together with the
impact fuse, guaranteed maximum blast effect.
The third requirement was the destruction of earth and timber bunkers, something requiring
impact fuse as well as high firing accuracy, the round needing to detonate inside the sand bags.
It carried either a high explosive or black powder burst charge initiated by an
impact fuse in the nose, similar to a large rifle primer, investigators said.

impact fuses. The V-2 would occasionally unintentionally burst above its target, probably due to air loading on the missile and the fuses.
These include delivery technique, age of the submunition, air temperature, landing in soft or muddy ground, getting caught in trees and vegetation, and submunitions being damaged after dispersal or landing in such a manner that their
impact fuses fail to initiate.
The shells provided were fused with 119
impact fuses, and the deep cavity had been filled with a cloth bag of high explosive material.
