infodemic

The overwhelming amount of information, both accurate and erroneous, that is disseminated via social media, blogs, podcasts, videos and websites. Coined in the early 2000s, the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 caused an infodemic that made it difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. See disinformation, blog, podcast and social media.
