international nautical mile

international nautical mile
The length of the arc of a great circle that subtends an angle of one minute at the center of the earth. This length varies with latitude because of the irregular shape of the earth. For the purpose of navigation, however, the international nautical mile of 6076.1 ft (1852 m) has been adapted as the standard for air navigation.
