Copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate (Merck, purity: 99%), isonicotinic acid hydrazide (Fluka, purity: 99%), L-ascorbic acid (S.D.Fine Chemicals, purity: 99%) and sodium hydroxide (Thomas Baker, purity: 97.5%), polyvinylpyrrolidone (Aldrich, purity: 98-99%) were used without further purification.
The 3HP group was given once weekly, directly observed treatment with rifapentine (brand name Priftin; 900 mg) plus isoniazid (brand name Nydrazid, also known as isonicotinic acid hydrazide or INH; 15-25 mg/kg) for 3 months.
The reaction occurred within 10 minutes by simply grinding hydrated copper acetate Cu[(CH).sub.3]C[O.sub.2].2[H.sub.2]O and isonicotinic acid. The formation of a reaction product was indicated by a change in colour from green to blue and the characteristic odor of acetic acid, released as by-product.

To exclude false UFC values, future measurements of UFC should include a chromatographic step in the cortisol assay (10), or investigators should use specific methods such as HPLC (11-13) or thin-layer chromatography/steroid derivatiza tion with isonicotinic acid hydrazide (14).
