The dark-eyed junco is the most common species, comprising in E North America the subgroup sometimes called the slate-colored junco, and several Western varieties. Juncos belong to the genus Junco and are classified in the phylum ChordataChordata

A dissecacao dos antimeros sob lupa oportunizou que fosse verificado o trajeto e a distribuicao dos ramos do nervo hipoglosso e a presenca de juncoes entre fibras deste nervo com ramos do nervo lingual neste animal, o suino.
Em nove antimeros (Tabela 1), verificaram-se juncoes macroscopicas entre os ramos linguais derivados do nervo lingual (dependente do nervo mandibular) e o nervo hipoglosso, observadas geralmente ao longo da regiao mediana ventral da lingua.
Os resultados obtidos nos permitiram concluir que: os ramos linguais do nervo hipoglosso formaram plexos e distribuiram-se amplamente pelas estruturas mioconjuntivas intrinsecas da lingua, notadamente nas regioes da raiz, corpo e apice; os ramos linguais primarios e secundarios do nervo hipoglosso sao formacoes constantes, e a maioria dos ramos primarios atravessou a musculatura sem participar de sua inervacao; os ramos secundarios e terciarios se distribuiram amplamente pelos diversos tecidos mioconjuntivos linguais, formando plexos visiveis pela mesoscopia de luz; em 31% dos casos analisados, os ramos linguais do nervo hipoglosso estabeleceram juncoes com fibras do nervo lingual, derivado do ramo mandibular do nervo trigemeo.
