litz wire

[′lits ‚wīr]
(electricity)
Wire consisting of a number of separately insulated strands woven together so each strand successively takes up all possible positions in the cross section of the entire conductor, to reduce skin effect and thereby reduce radio-frequency resistance. Derived from litzendraht wire.

To accommodate the side effects of an HTS rotor, like the very high magnetic field created, the stator is water-cooled and Litz wire is used to reduce eddy current losses.
Users can use formvar, square or double square magnet wire, Litz wire, pcb traces or foil.
The unvarnished windings use Litz wire (fine-stranded, fully transposed conductors), which controls the eddy-current losses, eliminates circulating current losses in the copper strands, and provides a large effective surface area for cooling.
The network is demonstrated with copper and litz wires to obtain a high quality-factor.
