Luteotropin

 

(luteotropic hormone, LTH, lactogenic hormone, prolactin, mammotropin), one of the hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary.

Luteotropin is essential primarily for the release of milk from the mammary glands (lactation). In rats, it also stimulates the activity of the corpus luteum. Luteotropin is largely responsible for the manifestation of the maternal instinct.
