Diagnosis requires blood tests to look for
megaloblasts and measure levels of B12 and folic acid.
The earliest sign of folic acid or vitamin [B.sub.12] deficiency is a megaloblastic anemia - so-called because of the abnormal production of
megaloblasts, the precursors of mature red cells.

The bone marrow aspiration of megaloblastic anaemia showed numerous
megaloblasts with large cells with an increased nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio, sieve-like chromatin and giant metamyelocytes (Figure B).
MA had typical
megaloblasts with sieved chromatin and asynchronic nuclear-cytoplasmic maturation (Figure 1).
