minimum line of detection
An intruder must be detected by the minimum detection line in order that the interceptor, scrambled for intercepting the intruder, can shoot it down before the weapon release line.
The closest distance at which the approach of hostile aircraft must be detected to successfully intercept them before they reach their weapon release line.
