mobile website
A website designed for the small screens of smartphones. Queries to a website include the type of browser being used, and when a request from a mobile browser is made, the site redirects it to its mobile counterpart (if there is one) for a more convenient surfing experience. Once bookmarked, users can access the site by its own name such as mobile.pcmag.com. Mobile sites render their pages in narrow columns and often provide only a subset of their regular website. Contrast with native mobile app. See mobile Web browser, responsive Web design and mobile version.Desktop vs. Mobile |
---|
Desktop browsers have much more room for multiple columns and wider content (top), but mobile browsers do not. A responsive Web design detects the device and returns a single column for mobile users (bottom). |
