A designation to indicate a specific amount of space surrounding the type, for example, interlinear space; the space is 6 points in the American point system.

Nonpareil

 

the name of a typeface whose size is 6 points (2.25 mm). Nonpareil is used primarily for publications not intended for continuous reading, such as dictionaries and reference works. For example, nonpareil is used in the Bol’shaia Sovetskaia Entsiklopediia (Great Soviet Encyclopedia) for the bibliographies of articles and figure captions.

Nonpareil

One of five pedagogical languages based on Markov algorithms, used in ["Nonpareil, a Machine Level Machine Independent Language for the Study of Semantics", B. Higman, ULICS Intl Report No ICSI 170, U London (1968)]. The others were Brilliant, Diamond, Pearl and Ruby.
