US Federal Aviation Administration officials have committed to using Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Contract (ADS-C) technology to reduce separation of aircraft in US
oceanic airspace in the near-term "since the automation platform used for that airspace was designed for ADS-C", the FAA has confirmed in a statement.

"Flights to Dar es Salam and Zanzibar and vice versa are currently planned via Sana'a
Oceanic airspace. This is an over-water route using the eastern portion of Yemeni airspace and it will take an average of five hours of flying time to reach Zanzibar and Dar es Salam.
The Iata-coordinated Aircraft Tracking Task Force noted in its report that tracking over remote and
oceanic airspace could be achieved through existing means of reporting and that new space-based technologies may play a key role in future.
Part of the flight to Havana will pass through
oceanic airspace that is controlled by New York air traffic centre, a source told ITAR-TASS news agency, though it wasn't clear whether US authorities would be able to somehow ground the plane.

oceanic airspace there is only one track, airway UL435, along which aircraft can cross four main airways - UN741, UN866, UN873 and UN857 - between South America and Europe.
ADS can also be considered an applicated process that actually combines technical communication and navigation systems and by enhancing the level of automation of ground-based systems will significantly improve ATM, especially in
oceanic airspace. Software that enables ground-based computers to use these data for conflict detection and resolution directly is currently being developed.
When fully deployed, ATOP will manage approximately 80 percent of the world's controlled
oceanic airspace, including approximately 24 million square miles over the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic oceans.
