overhead maneuver

overhead maneuver

A series of predetermined maneuvers for aircraft (often in formation) for entering into a VFR (visual flight rules) traffic pattern and proceeding to a landing. These aircraft are considered under VFR, and the IFR (instrument flight rules) flight plan is canceled when the aircraft crosses the landing threshold on the initial approach portion of the maneuver. See also overhead approach and peel off.
