Botallackite, a rare copper chloride trimorphous with atacamite and paratacamite, was named for the Botallack mine, Cornwall, England, where the first specimens were found in 1865.
The small Lily copper prospect, about 50 km east of Pisco, yielded beautiful specimens of atacamite, malachite, chrysocolla and gypsum around 1998-2000, as well as the world's best paratacamite in dark green cuboidal crystals to 1.5 cm.
This locality has been known up to now for its beautiful groups of transparent, colorless gypsum crystals included by atacamite, paratacamite and malachite.
And finally there were specimens of superbly well crystallized atacamite, paratacamite, connellite, claringbullite, spangolite, and other very rare secondary chlorides--23 species in all (see Graeme, 1993).
Associated minerals include hematite, dawsonite, quartz, calcite, kaolinite, barite, fluorite, ankerite, celestine, rarely weloganite and very rarely paratacamite. Most specimens of baddeleyite were collected in 1975 from cavities very rich in reddish brown globular and powdery hematite that partially (sometimes selectively) coats the cavity minerals.
Much rarer are blocky, almost pseudocubic, greenish black crystals of paratacamite from the Lily mine.
The crystals contain numerous inclusions of malachite and (possibly) paratacamite.
Other associated minerals are: nitratine, montmorillonite, paratacamite, atacamite, gunningite, alunite and natrojarosite.
Paratacamite is very rare, occurring in small fissures in the limonite ores as translucent to opaque, pale green crusts and masses up to 2 cm in diameter.
Paratacamite has been reported as green botryoidal hemispheres on chalcopyrite (Medici, 1981; and D.
The finest known examples of a number of supergene copper minerals were found at Bisbee: antlerite, bisbeeite, brochantite, chalcoalumite, claringbullite, conichalcite, crednerite, cuprite, delafossite, graemite, nantokite, paramelaconite, paratacamite, rosasite and spangolite.
