parent folder

A folder that is one level up from the current directory in a file hierarchy. In a DOS, Windows or Mac command line, two dots (..) refer to the preceding folder/directory level. The command cd .. moves the focus back one level. See file hierarchy.

The concept is simple, if you have a folder with two files of equal size, SpaceSniffer will show them both as equal rectangular divisions of the larger rectangle, the parent folder. This folder will then be placed, in the ratio of space it occupies, in the parent folder.
