Parton

a hypothetical particle or quasiparticle that is a structural element of a hadron, or strongly interacting elementary particle. The hypothesis of the existence of partons was advanced in 1969 by R. Feynman to explain the results of experiments on highly inelastic scattering of particles—that is, scattering with a high transfer of momentum to secondary particles. In particular, quarks can be regarded as partons.
