peak TV

The future year that the number of original TV series will peak, after which it will begin to decline. Coined in 2015 by John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks, peak TV has yet to be reached. In 2019, there were more than 500 "scripted" TV series available in the U.S. from Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO and other cable channels. Ten years earlier, there were slightly more than 200. These numbers do not include "unscripted" documentaries, news programs and reality TV shows.
