They occur in an early assemblage and are usually associated with brochantite, perite and other bismuth minerals, plattnerite and minute wulfenite crystals, which they commonly overgrow.
Lead phases detected by X-ray d iffraction include synthetic hydrocerussite ([Pb.sub.3][([CO.sub.3]).sub.2][(OH).sub.2]), synthetic crocoite ([PbCrO.sub.4]), synthetic phoenicochroite ([Pb.sub.2][CrO.sub.4]O), synthetic anglesite ([PbSO.sub.4]), and possible synthetic plattnerite ([PbO.sub.2]).
The crystals are tabular and elongated and form V-shaped twins resembling those of plattnerite. Stout chalcocite crystals are found at Bouismas; the largest reach 5 mm (November 2005).
Some of the hemimorphite crystal fans are lightly dusted by sharp microcrystals of plattnerite (prisms) and murdochite (cubes).
Some show outer cream-colored layers of hedyphane and a very few are partially dusted with plattnerite. The mine also produced some exquisite wulfenite crystals to 5 cm in the late 1800's.
These crystals are typically covered with a thin coating of black plattnerite, but lustrous, unaltered bladed crystals have also been observed.
Sprinklings of minute (1 mm or less) lustrous murdochite crystals are found in some areas, usually associated with plattnerite and often scrutinyite.
Recently, plattnerite and kentrolite have been identified in old specimens from the locality.
Other new finds from Utah include thin, bladed, centimeter-size crystals of hematite from the Creole mine, Beaver County (John Seibel Minerals); pale blue botryoidal smithsonite, calcite, rosasite, plattnerite and aurichalcite from the Hidden Treasure mine, north of Ophir, Tooele County, available from Jim McGlasson; rich purple crusts of cobaltomenite on rock from the Parco mine group, Thompson District, Grand County, and microcrystals of pharmacosiderite, metazeunerite and olivenite from the Big Indian mine, near La Sal, San Juan County (Virgin Mining).
Black, prismatic plattnerite crystals on limonite have been identified at Kamareza.
