post scarcity society
post scarcity society
the society of abundance in which scarcity has been eliminated, envisaged by some socialist thinkers. Counter-arguments suggest that there are always likely to be scarcities, including POSITIONAL GOODS, given that world resources are finite. A postindustrial, or postmodern, order might arise where the impetus to continuous accumulation associated with CAPITALISM was replaced by other goals, and it is in this sense that endemic scarcity might then cease.Collins Dictionary of Sociology, 3rd ed. © HarperCollins Publishers 2000
