profiling snow gage[′prō‚fīl·iŋ ′snō ‚gāj]
A type of radioactive gage for measuring the water equivalent and density/depth distribution of a snowpack, consisting of a radioactive source and a radioactivity detector which move up and down in two adjacent vertical pipes surrounded by snow. Also known as nuclear twin-probe gage.
